Adopting Roman scripts for the Indian National Bibliography was a difficult decision since there was no other way to integrate all the 14 language entries into one sequence. But it has it's critics also who thought the whole business of a national bibliography was to serve the West. It was therefore, decided to publish the language fascicule of INB in each vernacular languages in collaboration with their respective 

State Governments. This arrangement worked well till the early seventies. Thereafter many of the State Govt. agencies backed out. Even today Govt. of Kerala and Govt. of U.P. are actively co-operating with the Central Reference Library in publishing the Malayalam, Hindi and Urdu bibliographies. Some of the language bibliographies like Tamil, Bengali and Assamese are published by CRL itself.
