On the direction and encouragement of the
Department Culture the Central Reference Library, Kolkata is actively
participating in the development of the North Eastern Region. As part of
this activity the CRL regularly organize training programmes for Library
professionals of the North Eastern region on the Compilation of
Bibliographies in their respective languages. Many of these languages
are very rich but it’s published wealth is not properly listed or
preserved .Theses publications do not reach National Library under
Delivery of Books Act nor it get listed in the Indian National
Bibliography. In order to create an awareness and to encourage the
respective language professionals to take up the task of listing their
language publications we have organized training programmes at Guwahati
(Assam), Agartala (Tripura) , Shillong (Meghalaya), Kohima,( Nagaland) and
Aizawal (MIzoram) for the library professionals so that they will be able
to compile bibliographies in their own languages. Around 250 professionals
of the North East were benefited
by this programme by now. This activity was supported by the University of
Guwahati, Birchandra State Library, Agartala and North Eartern Hill
University, Shillong, State Libray,, Nagaland and Mizoram University,
Aizawal . This is a continuing scheme.
